Situation
Active Environmental Services, Inc. was contracted to conduct a Site Characterization and to prepare a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for a former gasoline service station and Bulk Fuel storage facility located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Site Characterization revealed petroleum residuals in soil and groundwater in the vicinity of a release of petroleum from the underground storage tanks formerly located on the site. The CAP approved by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management included over excavation of contaminated soil, quarterly monitoring of the on and off-site monitoring wells, and the operation of a Multi-Phase-Extraction system.
Corrective Action and Remediation Activities
Several underground storage tanks have been removed from the site, with remediation of soils with petroleum residuals. A Request for "No Further Action" from IDEM after four quarters of non-detect or below IDEM closure levels in the monitoring wells was requested and granted.
