Situation
Active Environmental Services, Inc. was contracted to conduct a Site Characterization and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for a gasoline service station located in a Karst geologic environment, in Bloomington, Indiana. The Site Characterization revealed petroleum residuals in the bedrock and ground water in the soil and bedrock both on and off-site. The CAP approved by IDEM included a ground water collection system, treatment with activated carbon, and an NPDES permit to discharge the treated ground water.

Corrective Action and Remediation Activities
The approved Corrective Action Plan is continuing to date. Ground water contaminants have been reduced through Natural Attenuation by approximately 80%. Continue efforts to reduce the sampling requirements at the site to move toward NFA at the site. Request No Further Action from IDEM after four quarters of non-detect or below IDEM closure levels in the monitoring wells. Continue to reduce O & M costs of the system.
